Earlier this week, Shudeep Chandrasekhar, one of the top financial analysts on Seeking Alpha, launched his unique crowd-funding video project on Indigogo in collaboration with his long-term associate Shankar Narayanan.

Dubbed “Vidiculus! The World’s Biggest Video Project”, the campaign is the starting point of an attempt to create a massive video library of information on the world’s top 1000 companies.

The short videos – called “Vidics” – will feature every significant aspect of the world’s largest and most influential businesses and brands. The creators say that the project’s objective is to educate consumers and provide a reference source for the general public to become more aware of the companies that are “controlling our present and creating our future.”

The project is unique in that there is no other video library of its kind in existence today. The creators also say that in the next 5 to 10 years, Vidiculus! (yes, it comes with the exclamation mark) will rival sites such as Wikipedia, which is currently the go-to portal for information about nearly anything under the sun.

The ultimate objective of this campaign is to create a globally accessible video encyclopedia on the most trending subjects in the world. Phase 1 involves covering the world’s top 1000 companies so people can learn about the corporations that influence their lives on a daily basis.

The key to the project’s success, say the creators, is this:

“You have Google on one side and Wikipedia on the other, and several other information portals such as YouTube and so on. The problem with that is that all of it is user-generated content. As such, each piece of content gets “tagged” according to the whims and fancies of the user uploading that information. And that’s why it’s so hard to find the exact bit of information you’re looking for. With our system, these videos are all interlinked within an ecosystem that “heirarchizes” them and makes them easily searchable. In effect, compared to several minutes to an hour trying to find information on the internet, you will be able to head over to our website or open our mobile app and find what you need in just a few seconds.”

The project is currently live on Indiegogo, and potential backers can view their story on their campaign page.
