Aims to raise $20,000 via Kickstarter by November 2nd

Washington, DC (October 20, 2014) – Last week, Girl Lux, Inc. (www.girllux.com) launched their crowd source funding Kickstarter campaign for their new product, the Pocket Pantie™. The start-up company, founded earlier this year, is 100% woman-owned and operated. Girl Lux designs and creates products for tweens, ages 8-14 years old – focusing on underwear and bras for tween girls going through the stages of becoming a young woman.

Company founder and CEO, Melissa Ovard, started Girl Lux after recalling her own time as a young girl (www.girllux.com). Coming from a multiracial family, Ovard, who is Korean American, was raised in a household that celebrated diversity and the beauty of skin tones. She wanted to create underwear that would work for every girl, no matter her shape or color.

Girl Lux’s signature product, the Debut Bra™, comes in five matching skin tone shades and made of soft seamless fabric to reduce visibility and be more comfortable for the girl when she first begins wearing a bra.  Girl Lux’s second signature product, the Pocket Pantie™ has a small, interior pocket just big enough to hold a wrapped panty liner or thin maxi pad. The pocket is sewn just below the waistband, discreet enough not to show through clothes or bother the wearer when sitting.

Girl Lux’s Kickstarter campaign (www.kickstarter.com) has turned to supporters on the internet to help raise funds and alleviate start-up costs. This venture additionally cultivates an environment where backers can come together to support a common interest in the name of their daughters, nieces, sisters, friends and loved ones.

Kickstarter provides the perfect platform for Girl Lux’s audience. In 2013 alone, over three million people pledged $480 Million USD for Kickstarter campaigns around the world. When asked why Girl Lux decided to pursue crowd-funding efforts, Ovard notes, “we want the company’s roots to start with a community of women from diverse backgrounds, coming together to help make things a bit easier for this next generation of tween girls.”  In line with Kickstarter guidelines, Girl Lux has a set number of days to raise all the funds or the project receives nothing. Girl Lux’s 25 day fundraising window is seeking to raise $20,000 USD by the project end date of November 2nd.

If successfully funded, Ovard expects to place the first bulk immediately so products will be available for purchase in time for the upcoming holiday season.  To learn more about Girl Lux and their products, readers can visit the project’s pitch page:  www.kickstarter.com.
