An alternative history tale where Muhammad Ali and Teofilo Stevenson finally meet – in the biggest fight of all time!
The Fight We Never Saw is a 100-page, black and white, original graphic novel, self-published by me and funded by you. The comic will be brought alive by the art of the immensely talented Roel Palmaira.
The Fight We Never Saw is an alternative history tale about Muhammad Ali, the 3-time heavyweight boxing champion – and perhaps the greatest boxer of all time – and a Cuban, amateur, boxer named Teofilo Stevenson, who while Ali dominated the professional ranks, won three Olympic Gold medals in a row.
The crux of the book will be these two men’s desire to fight one another and how the others existence tortures them. They both believe themselves to be the best, but can’t be sure until they’ve faced each other. The book delves deep into who these men were and would thus also look at the politics of the time, such as America’s lean to the left, post Vietnam and acceptance of Ali as a national hero, Castro’s Cuba, the Communist movement and the Cold War.
The book will be presented in 3 main ways; as a digital PDF, a softcover and a hardcover. There will also be other merchandise, such as bookmarks, A4 prints and postcards. It was important to me to be able to offer the additional merchandise with every version of the book, as I feel that those people ordering the PDF are often treated as an afterthought. So regardless of whether you bought the PDF, softcover or hardcover you will also be able to find a pledge level where you can purchase any or all of the other merchandise.
This project also boasts a few higher pledge levels, where you can either get a commission by the man himself Roel Palmaira, or you could even get drawn into the book. Now these higher pledge levels are limited, so make sure you get in there fast to avoid disappointment.
