Dr. Sue is a rhyming story book for children between the ages of 2 and 6 and in this, her first book there is an emergency at space HQ.
OK,So my wife and I (mainly her) brought our daughter into the world just over two years ago. As she grew up, the books that we would read turned from picture books to proper little story books. Our daughter loves her books from The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler to Alfie by Shirley Hughes which got me thinking, for every good fun story book there was, there would be an ‘oh, was that it?! I could have done better than that’ type book.
So with that in mind, I decided to have a go at writing a childrens book.
I started with the title (what better place to start), I wanted a fun rhyming title but with an abrupt ending and after a few attempts I came up with ‘The Caring, Daring, Welly Boot Wearing, Dr. Sue’. Then I started off rhyming some words (mainly welly), welly, belly, smelly, jelly until I realized it wasn’t going to be a walk in the park. After a month or so of making up rhyming sentences, I had enough to start planning some pages and worked out where the story was going to go. Once that happened it all sort of fell together and within three months of the idea, my childrens book was completed.
THE STORY.
In this story Dr. Sue’s day starts with a phone call from Space HQ,
PAGE ONE:
Emergency at Space HQ,
One of our spacemen has slipped on some goo.
He then tripped on a sprocket,
And bumped his head on the rocket.
We need your help Dr. Sue.
PAGE TWO:
Take off is in ten with the other spacemen
Bob, Fred and Len.
It won’t be as fun,
If he’s not on STAR ONE,
And we’ll have to start all over again.
As the book continues, it counts down to blast off whilst Dr. Sue make her way to help spaceman Joe at Space HQ.
Your Money.
So, I’m asking for £6000 which might sound a lot for a childrens book but this is to go down the self publish route.
£5500 will be spent on getting the book published and advertised.
Although the book will only have around 20 pages, the whole book will be in color.
The book will need a ‘ISBN Number’.
A simple website for selling and advertising.
Plus any other ways I can think of to advertise and promote this book.
£500 has been put aside for the rewards.
Well, that’s it. Thanks for viewing my Kickstarter Project and you’re more than welcome aboard STAR ONE for an adventure in SPAAAAAACE!
OH! I forgot to say, check out my rewards. Every Backer, no matter how much they pledge, will get their name in the book. This book will not happen without you so you should be thanked properly for the whole world to see! Plus I NEED YOU! well, your face at least. Nine characters still need a face, who will it be?
