A very loving and giving Australian Film/Cinematography teacher wanted to give an opportunity of a lifetime to his best student. He knew that the Independent Film Scene in Australia was hard to break into because it takes a lot of money for a movie to be made, money that most don’t have, and unfortunately they can’t look for investors because the ASIC (Australian Securities & Investment Committee) has to approve the investment before people can give money. What’s the catch? To be approved by the ASIC, they need to file paperwork and get a legal team. All of this doesn’t come easy as it costs at least $100,000 AUD. When in reality, the Indie movie could be made for less than that fee.
Fortunately, the teacher was able to pair up with an Executive Producer from England that had the money and was looking to “break into the biz”! Perfect pairing you might think. And for awhile, it was.
The teacher and his best student crewed up, hired actors, finalized the script and flew to California where the story would begin. For a whole month, the team drove around the USA filming a truly magical and beautiful story. Forget what you know about the USA. Forget the “touristy” destinations. They went to raw places. Places that had been frozen in time. Places that will move you to tears.
However, in the middle of the trip the 6 people crew found themselves stuck in an RV, in the middle of the desert with NO funds. We later found out that the Executive Producer had pulled the money from the bank accounts and called the Insurance Company to report that her equipment had been stolen. However, the Insurance Company did their due diligence and decided not to pursue those charges. The Executive Producer fled the scene and would only show up months later with a bogus lawsuit that has also been dismissed.
What were we to do? We were in love the story and we needed to tell it. So, we decided to forgo our paychecks, and pay for the production out-of-pocket.
But now we need your help! We need to do some Post Production work and that is costing us too much money. Money that was already spent during the production.
