Tales from Dungeons Deep is a fantasy roleplaying game with a focus on resource management, dungeon exploration, and base building. Though it takes major influences with OSR products and classic D&D, it is its own separate entity with unique rules, mechanics, and playstyles.

Some excerpts from the Kickstarter Page:

With levels capped at 10, and monster stats that range to an equivalent of a 24th level character, death is not an uncommon occurrence in TFDD. However, death is not the end of the players’ progression through the game. This RPG uses influences from modern rogue-like video games to give a sense of progression even through the loss of a PC. When a character dies, their experience can be spent on boosts for the next character. They may be tougher than usual, have access to magic, or may even be the offspring of a god. Even without buying these bonuses, future characters will level up faster to get back to where they were.
Characters of the same class also gain random advancements. No two fighters will be the same. Players who prefer to build their characters toward a specific goal will find they can earn this privilege by spending experience.

Players level up just like most other roleplaying games. The maximum level, however, is very quick to achieve compared to others. Once this is achieved, the players can continue to advance in several ways. First, they may retire their character to create a more powerful, albeit lower level, character that can reach greater heights.
Second, they can spend their hard-earned gold on constructing a stronghold. Strongholds are not just safe areas to sleep. They provide tangible in-game advantages depending on what is built. For example, dwarves can build a special forge that allows for the creation and perfection of magic items, or a tavern can be constructed to help hire retainers.
Finally, characters can collect magic items and legendary weapons. These weapons allow the character to spend experience to enhance them, gaining special powers. Like Thor’s Mjolnir or King Arthur’s Excalibur.
