After being diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Jason was told he wouldn’t be able to walk past the age of 18. Living an active lifestyle, which for any other person would improve the quality of life, has actually shortened his life considerably. He has also had several complications caused by skin cancer as well as liver problems, which were severe enough to give him a prognosis of survival of less than 3 months.</p> <p>Despite it all, Jason has always felt he is on this Earth for a purpose. At 33 years of age, suffering from the effects of cerebral palsy on his left side and an over-worked right side, he has decided to take it to the next level. Just in time for the Playoffs, every card in this deck was custom-illustrated from scratch to provide high-quality finish unlike any basketball playing cards before. The card back and tuck box design pay homage to the history of basketball, while individual face cards feature recognizable players from 4 different teams, and the number cards use their custom suits to create unique designs.</p> <p>Being an avid fan of basketball and custom playing cards, designer KC Youm stated that he was frustrated with the lack of quality in basketball-related cards available in the current market. Historically, many high-quality, custom playing cards found success using Kickstarter, and Studio Blue Penguin hopes to use the platform to share its project with other basketball enthusiasts.</p> <p>Studio Blue Penguin spent over 4 months on this unique custom deck, which focuses specifically on players from the West. The great shots, and the lousy shots! Its funny how easy, and frustrating, golf can be. It’s in that spirit we created Crappy Golfers Association.</p> <p>We all have that ability to hit that great shot, yet when we really want to do it, that’s when we hit the ball into the water, or choke on that crucial putt. We wind up hitting that crappy shot at the most inopportune times.</p> <p>Crappy Golfers started when I retired to Myrtle Beach and needed some new golfing buddies. So I went on Craigslist and posted “crappy golfers wanted…” and got a great response. Over time, we formed a small group of friends – we golf, we hang out, we meet for dinners. We are a little crappy golfers association.</p> <p>To be funny, I had a couple shirts made, and everyone loved ‘em. I constantly get asked where I got it. Random people wanted their own. So I got the name trademarked, found a factory, made some samples, and now I’m on Kickstarter to get our first production order started. The project started just a little bit over a year ago. It all started from one of our creators, Rick Yu’s own frustration in the golf learning experience, especially when it comes to putting. Reading the wrong breaks, deceptive slopes, wrong speed causing longer 2nd putt than the 1st putt had made it really annoying. Rick then started researching online in hope to find materials that can help him find a way to crack the myth in green reading. Unfortunately there are much tips and lessons in full swings but hardly any material on reading breaks.</p> <p>With the backgrounds in Computer Science and Product Marketing, Rick believes how the golf ball rolls on the green is all dictated by science and all can be realized by a digital device with computing capabilities, so he started working with a team of Physics PhDs to come up with a ball-rolling simulation model and it had proven to be working quite well on actual testings on the greens. In the mean while, a long-time friend of 15 years, Frank Lay had joined the team bringing over 25 years of experience in electrical, mechanical and manufacturing of consumer electronics. Both of them are real passionate about injecting technology into sporting to help each athlete excel. The GreenPlay project had hence officially turned from a pet project into a real project that we wish to launch commercially and bring real values in putting improvements to golfers around the world.</p> <p>The GreenPlay Project is a golf training aid consists of both hardware and software. The GreenPlay+ is a small, stylish Bluetooth Smart (BLE) device that the golfers can carry in their pocket during a practice round. It is designed to be placed on the green pointing at the cup to collect the multi-dimensional slope information about the green. The GreenPlay+ will then send the data wirelessly to the GreenPlay App on the the golfers’ smartphones.</p> <p>GreenPlay App is an iOS/Android training app that takes the data from the GreenPlay+, together with Green Speed, distance to the hole, distance control, grain variation input by the user, through real-time simulation. The App will then output putting tips with a suggested Aim Target (aiming left/right, putt long/short) to help the amateurs visualize how the putt will break and raise the success rate of aiming in the right direction and learn how to putt better.</p> <p>The GreenPlay+ was designed to be the intention to be used like a ball marker. Simply mark the ball’s position and collect the slope data while you wait for other players to play. On any given day, on the tiny island of Little Corn, located off the coast of Nicaragua, you can find children playing the country’s most beloved sport of baseball. This third world island can only be reached by boat, which makes education and equipment difficult to obtain.</p> <p>Collectively we have had numerous experiences traveling, living, and working third world. We have played on teams, worked in teams, taught children, and been involved in non-profit work. In our ventures we have consistently observed a lack of structure, education, and materials. Based on your level of generosity, we can reach a goal as simple as bringing basic baseball equipment and free clinics to the island, and as grand as building a field and establishing a structured Little League.</p> <p><strong>What We Need</strong><br /> We have re-set our funding goal to $30,000, which would enable us to ship and transport the following:</p> <p style="padding-left: 30px;">– balls<br /> – bats<br /> – gloves<br /> – helmets<br /> – and any other essential baseball equipment.</p> <p>In addition, these funds would allow us to begin the process of constructing a field for Little League teams.</p> <p>Furthermore, by meeting this stretch goal we could supply:</p> <p style="padding-left: 30px;">– team uniforms<br /> – field maintenance and equipment (bases, chalk, shovels, rakes, etc.)<br /> – add facilities such as: storage units, restrooms, concessions, and a scoreboard.</p> <p>Depending on the level of support and funding we receive, 5 TOOL FUNDAMENTALS intends to expand to communities beyond Little Corn Island.</p> <p><strong>The Impact</strong><br /> We have come to the understanding that there are 5 fundamental tools to achieving success: simplicity, communication, preparation, efficiency, and execution.
