SLC, Utah – May 2015- Kenzie Vawdrey recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for her new film, This Is How We Survive, a short film that follows a young girl as she tries to understand and cope with the reality of death, by escaping to a fantasy world of her own imagining.
Kenzie Vawdrey, Writer and Director of Gina’s Journey states that her hopes for the project are to not only tell a compelling story, but also showcase the talents and abilities of Utah women filmmakers, as over half of the cast and crew for the film are local Utah women. And as a member of Utah Women in Film, Kenzie believes that Utah has many untapped resources when it comes to film, especially regarding women filmmakers and actors.
In this story, a young girl faces the painful reality of death when her brother is killed. As an outlet for her grief and frustration, she creates an imaginary world of monsters and apocalypse. With her toys as her companions, she sets out to explore this world as it parallels the events of reality. But not all is sadness as her mother joins in the journey to coping.
This Is How We Survive is a story that will resonate with anyone who had to cope with the cold truth of life and death at a young age. Both introspective and hopeful, it’s a touching moment in a young girl’s life. Set against the picturesque Wasatch mountains, the films will be shot entirely in the Salt Lake City area.
Kenzie and her team have now turned to Kickstarter to help raise the funds for production of the film. In exchange for pledging to the project, backers can receive a variety of rewards from a digital copy of the full finished film to official posters, digital copies of photographs from the set, and even producer and executive producer credits.
