The Only Thing To Get You Through The Winter Months Is This Rockin’ Spring Break Anthem

Four whacky musicians need your help to fund a fully interactive music video.

What would happen if you channeled your inner nerd, bro, and babe all at once? Well, for The Really Cooks—a quirky, creative, and musically diverse band based out of West Philadelphia—it resulted in an impressively catchy dance tune called “Spring Break.”

It all began out of a bit of goofy fun, as most things do with The Really Cooks. “Lem and Alon [drummer and bassist] would always ‘bro out’ at band practice and say the line, ‘Whatcha think you’re doing, Nerd?’ from Revenge of the Nerds,” recalls the band’s keyboard player, Josh SchwartzNeubauer. “And then we wrote a song out of it.

“Spring Break” features less than ten words (most of them “spring” and “break”). Yet somehow, the song manages to portray a vivid tale of bros, nerds, and babes all headed for their college vacation, where they end up battling and partying it out at the beach.

But the band can’t stop there. The Really Cooks want to spread their love of music and laughter to everyone who’s open to it; and to do this, they’re putting all of their creative energy into an equally magical music video for “Spring Break.” To truly bring the song to life, they want their fans to do more than just enjoy the video—they want them to be a part of it. Through an innovative, interactive style, viewers will be able to switch between perspectives of the bros, nerds, babes, and the beach patrol.

In order to make their dream music video a reality, The Really Cooks are in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for expenses like cast and crew, equipment, insurance, permits, and props. Over the course of the campaign, they are releasing seven promotional video episodes that are as artistic as they are hilarious, so potential backers can glimpse the creativity and commitment of the musicians.

The Really Cooks need your help to fund this project. Kickstarter has an “allornothing” funding model, which means the band has until December 26 to raise their goal of $5,555. Otherwise, “Spring Break” as envisioned cannot happen. You can follow along with the action at #springbreakvid, and you can watch the videos and donate to the Kickstarter at www.kickstarter.com. And hey, if you choose the $35 reward level, Spring Break: The Interactive Music Video could even be your big debut, in picture form!
