Filmmakers Craig Kennedy Meyers and Sarah Irene Wolfe intend to begin production on their independent film “the Spirit Moves,” in May of 2014 in Dublin and County Wicklow, Ireland London, UK and Montana, USA. Their production plan is to shoot a fictional narrative with a two-person documentary crew (a very cost-effective option).
The pair plans to shoot their film in HD and to exercise precision, creativity and tenacity while shooting, as the budget for a large crew, top of the line equipment and special effects are all out of the question.
Chancers recently received some disappointing news about a major funding source already budgeted into the movie’s shooting plan. The Indian Trust Settlement see (indiantrust.com) has delayed dispersal of funds that were earmarked for the film. This setback endangers the promise of production moving forward, though the filmmakers are determined to continue forth.
A Kickstarter was recently launched, but without collaborators, the future of this film looks bleak.
Occasionally one must step away from everything and everyone that they know to realize who they truly are. Identity is greater than the roles that we fulfill in our lives, the burdens that we carry and the labels foisted upon us by others.
Leopold Kennedy Kicking Woman falls asleep on an ill-kempt patch of grass outside of his brother’s trailer house in Montana and wakes up in Dublin along the waterfront. As he wakes up to get his bearings he sees a woman nearby waking and looking as thoroughly disoriented; Violet Lobos similarly dozes off on her cousin’s couch after her grandfather’s funeral and awakes in terribly unfamiliar surroundings. The two decide that sticking together is the sanest thing to do in the face of such nonsensical circumstances and soon find that they share many of the same neurotic tendencies and wild eccentricities.
In time, the pair finds that they are both searching for the elusive philosophical definition of identity. While delving in the abstract and creating hypothesis, they stumble onto what is real and intrinsic. Together they realize that they never had been very lost at all.
Filmmaker’s Statement:
This is a collaborative endeavor between two writers and friends that has been years in the making. This film will be different and beautiful because we are unconstrained by the Hollywood model. We are not asking permission we are taking back the creative space that many would try to keep exclusive. This project is about kicking open our own doors and expressing what identity means to us, in our own language and with our own words. We are striving to tell stories that no one else can, but that need to be told.
