LOS ANGELES, CA – Allen and Sheryl Hill, founders of Clear Cause Foundation, never expected when they sent their 16 year old son, Tyler, off to Japan for ‘the trip of a lifetime’ on a People to People Student Ambassador program that they would never see him again. They just wanted their son to experience the world. They trusted he would be safe.
What started off as a dream trip turned into a nightmare when Tyler Hill passed away on June 29, 2007 at the Japanese Red Cross Medical Center. His death could have been prevented if he had received proper medical treatment.
Every year about 45 million American middle, high school, and college students are enticed to travel abroad through student programs. Though laws exist for foreign students coming to the U.S., no such laws are in place to protect our most precious treasures, our children – America’s future, in other countries. It’s estimated that about 25% of female students are raped on these trips. Other students are injured, abandoned, or killed. To make matters worse, the families are often forced to sue just to get the information they are entitled to about their children’s injuries or deaths.
Sheryl has turned her tragedy into a mission in Tyler’s honor. She formed the non-profit ClearCause™ Foundation to inform and educate others about the dangers of student travel, study programs, and cultural exchanges. She is also lobbying to get tougher laws to regulate the $170+ billion* youth travel industry to help keep kids safe. (*2013 WYSTC)

Sheryl Hill says, “Our kids are not prepared to advocate for themselves in foreign countries. Parents are often not prepared when tragedy strikes. They need passports, funding, power of attorney, insurance, legal counsel, health info in the foreign language and more. ClearCause Foundation’s vision is for every youth and student going abroad on programs to have safe, rewarding experiences in an industry held to the highest standards with zero preventable deaths and injuries.”
Speaker Sponsor continues to be the leader in sponsorship for speakers, creating opportunities for speakers and marketing partnerships for the small business and corporate community.
