Futuristic motorcycle Head-Up Display (HUD) communicates speed, engine revs, gear selection, turn indicators and more using graphics, colour and sound without distracting the rider; front and rear facing cameras and on-bike controller
Stoke-on-Trent, UK, xx November 2014, BIKESYSTEMS today announced that it is seeking crowdfunding investment through Kickstarter at www.kickstarter.com to support the launch and ongoing development of its next generation BIKEHUD ADVENTURE Head-Up Display and BIKEVISION camera system for motorcyclists.
The new BIKEHUD ADVENTURE in-helmet display uses a transparent screen and fits full-face and most flip-front helmets, it includes custom display modes for racing and everyday road use.
The optional BIKEVISION camera system includes full HD, 1080p forward and rearward facing cameras.
BIKESYSTEMS is behind the already successful BIKEHUD Classic Head-Up Display, which started to ship to customers worldwide in January 2014.
Managing Director of BIKESYSTEMS Dave Vout, said: “We’re developing a product based on real life experience and feedback from our first entry-level product. We’re using technology to connect the rider, their surroundings and the bike. BIKEHUD ADVENTURE and BIKEVISION don’t just make riding more fun, they make it safer. What’s more, our plug-and-play design and scalable solution means that our products suits all pockets and needs.”
BIKEHUD ADVENTURE retains the core features that made BIKEHUD Classic a great design:
● Works on any motorcycle, from a 1951 Sunbeam S8 to the latest Ducati or BMW.
● It fits in the rider’s own helmet.
● It is an in-helmet display that can be moved between helmets (so no worries if you drop or damage your helmet – simply move BIKEHUD ADVENTURE to the replacement helmet).
BIKEHUD ADVENTURE is modular and can be configured to suit your budget and needs:
● BIKEHUD ADVENTURE: wireless in-helmet Head-Up Display monocle
• The in-helmet unit. Fits in your current helmet. Shows speed, GPS navigation, safety cameras, and uses your phone to play music and show who’s calling you.
● BIKEHUD ADVENTURE PLUS: in-helmet monocle with BIKEHUB on-bike controller
The BIKEHUD ADVENTURE monocle together with a BIKEHUB controller fitted on your bike. It does everything the standalone BIKEHUD ADVENTURE does and:
• Adds high frequency speed display (updates up to 100 times each second)
• Shows extra info in the HUD monocle: gear selected, engine revs, indicators
• Comes with a handlebar-mounted keypad
• Can take calls from your smartphone
● BIKEHUD ADVENTURE Vision: monocle, BIKEHUB on-bike controller and BIKEVISION rear and forward facing cameras
Does everything the BIKEHUD ADVENTURE Plus does with the addition of:
• Forward and rear facing bike-mounted cameras giving wide angle vision and eliminating blind spots.
• Cameras are always ready to capture images as they are powered by the BIKEHUB controller (no need to worry about charging batteries) and they do not need to be fitted unlike other commercially available cameras.
Although Vout sees Bike HUD as primarily improving safety on the road, he recognises it potential with more demanding riders, such as track day motorcyclists.
Vout says: “With consultation from race organisations such as the UK’s ACU, ADVENTURE will allow a race team’s pit crew to finally feed information directly to the rider via text, symbols and simple shorthand. Additionally other race information such as braking and turn-in points can be more accurately defined now. Where traditionally the rider had to gauge such points by looking at markers or references on the edge of the track now he has a much more intuitive method. Additionally this data can be recorded for training/instruction etc.
Vout concluded: “Conceptually we’ve created a PC for motorbikes and like any computer its use is only limited by imagination and creativity. For example new concepts for emergency services – it will be possible for the motorcycle control centre to set the destination in the GPS – saving time for the rider who can concentrate on getting there rather than inputting data into his GPS unit.
“With the introduction of our integrated camera technology BIKEVISION the fully integrated system becomes a Black Box for motorcycles. In the unfortunate event of an accident not only will the video record the events but also the context because the video is synchronised with the bike’s telemetry for speed, revs gear and indicators.
The Kickstarter funding will be fully invested in preparing BIKEHUD ADVENTURE and BIKEVISION for launch in 2015.

Installation
There are four components to a complete BIKEHUD system: the in-helmet display, the controller (BIKEHUB), a handlebar mounted control panel and the cameras. The in-helmet display can be installed on most full-face and flip-front helmets in minutes, and can be moved between helmets. The BIKEHUB controller is about the size of a smart phone, it and the control panel can installed on the motorcycle by any competent DIY or auto-electrician.
Safety
It takes about one second to scan motorcycle instruments, when travelling at 50mph this equates to the rider being ‘blind’ to the road for at least 70 feet (21m) – with BIKEHUD, the rider always has eyes on the road.
