Old Lamp Entertainment Limited is pleased to announce it is now in pre-production on it’s next exciting short film project, ‘Cast Away’, and has launched a Go Fund Me campaign to help support the project.

Inspired by issues of mental health and male suicide, it tells the story of Diggory Sambor, a young man who finds himself waking day in, day out, on a barren, unforgiving shoreline. One day whilst searching for answers, he witnesses a strange light on the horizon – a light that seemingly begins to try to connect with him. But does this mysterious visual and audible presence bring hope or despair?

‘Cast Away’ marks the directorial debut of British / Portuguese actress Luisa Guerreiro who has written the script from her own idea, and is set to star British actor Mike Archer, who is also producing on behalf of Old Lamp. When speaking about the project, Luisa is open about her inspiration for the subject matter.

“We categorise emotions in light and shade, negative and positive. Generalised examples: Girls are excused for crying, but boys frequently are not. Girls cannot get angry as that is very ‘unladylike’, but anger in boys is just part of being male… I regard this as toxic and damaging.

Emotions are a human facet; neither good nor bad. We should only be judged by the things we say and do not by the emotions we feel. However, this film will not focus on the futility of loss and despair, but rather, in an original way, focus on the hope for change.”

Shooting on the project is scheduled to commence on April 25th at the remote but stunning Monknash Beach and Nature reserve on the south coast of Wales. As Mike points out, “the location is a logistical challenge as it’s definitely off the beaten track, but the location we have secured adds a grand and epic scale to this barren landscape that is as much a part of the story. And you cannot beat the awesome beauty of the coastline in South Wales. Towering cliffs and wide expanses really give us the feeling of the character being caught between a figurative rock and a hard place.”

Old Lamp is the London based, award nominated, boutique production house founded in 2011 by Mike Archer, to develop and produce the stories he wanted to tell. In 2015, the company debuted it’s first film project at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards – ‘The Journey of Alfred Small’ picked up award nominations for Best Ensemble Cast. In 2016 he partnered with Luisa to develop and deliver the European debut of ‘The Crystal Egg Live’, a multi media immersive show inspired by the short story from seminal writer H. G. Wells, to rave 5 star reviews. The company is currently undertaking active development on a slate of exciting feature projects.

The Go Fund Me for ‘Cast Away’ is seeking to raise additional funding for the project and in one week has raised over £1000. Luisa says, “We want to make sure that we are in a position to tell this story as fully artistically as we can.” Interested parties can check out the Go Fund Me link and donate to the project through the platform.
