Los Angeles, CA 05/07/2015 – Joshua Caro, Emma L. Konzel, and Jared V. Walker midwest/east coast transplants of LA have spent the last two months shooting, editing and scoring a teaser trailer for their short film Can’t Help Myself. Putting all of their own time, money and resources into it – they look to raise $10,000 through their Indieogogo campaign. Launched just two days ago they have until June 2 to raise the funds and need your help to expand the trailer into its intended full story. The story involves Jade and Shay two strangers who strike up a unique and tethering bond. While a concrete release date awaits the outcome of their campaign, sights are set on a handful of short film festivals in the late fall, early new year.
Joshua Caro was impassioned when he saw American Beauty in 7th grade and his mind hasn’t stopped thinking cinematically since. This is the first of many screenplays he has written, lined up to be produced by his growing team. Cant Help Myself has an unexpected weight beneath the surface of Jade and Shay’s day, something looming over their connection that we can’t quite put our fingers on. He hope’s to find a similar placeholder to his own in the viewers mind tugging at them long after the credits roll.
In the minute long teaser trailer for Cant Help Myself, we are guided by soft and haunting music (original music by Caro himself) and a vibrant collage of images. Seeing two peoples paths intersect throughout a day and what lies beyond their initial encounter. Hints of off center, anchoring question marks float beneath the surface through the whirlwind lead character Jade and her spinning inner thought voiceover. All the while Shay grasps at the full extent of what he is left with, a tangle of confusion.
The team itself came to LA wanting to hit the ground running. Emma and Joshua had already started to get the wheels turning when they met the perfect catalyst in Jared. Upon showing him the screenplay Can’t Help Myself they all nodded in agreement and have started to lay the foundation for their future in film making.
