A webseries about queer women of color (QWOC) grappling with the intersectionality of spirituality, sexuality, gender, and race.
Chicago, IL, April 30, 2018 — The creators of SEX IS A GOD THING webseries announced today that their seeking to raise funds on Seed & Spark for their pre-production and production needs for their upcoming 7-episode webseries. Their goal is to procure over $17,000 by May 29, 2018.
The concept, originally created by Rashida KhanBey-Miller, centers on two queer women of color as they connect as long lost sisters, lament the recent loss of their father, repair their broken relationships, and reconcile their childhood religiosity with their identities as Black lesbians. The original Sex Is a God Thing short has garnered over 22+ million views across all social media platforms; from Oakland, California to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Up until very recently, with the success of Lena Waithe ( Master of None) and Samira Wiley (Orange Is the New Black), there’s been little QWOC representation in the media. SEX IS A GOD THING seeks to expand that representation, by creating characters and stories that accurately and three-dimensionally represent today’s QWOC.
SEX IS A GOD THING is currently in pre-production. With the casting call complete, production is set to begin in mid July 2018. A talented team of artists of color have been assembled, and though they are willing to work for passion, the show creators seek to value their gifts in both appreciation AND payment.
