As part of an ambitious Kickstarter campaign, Melbourne-based document preservation cooperative, The Scientific Publishing Company, are launching a range of fully-restored, hand-crafted reproductions of history’s most influential scientific papers that are too influential to stay within the confines of an online library.

Many people would have had access to millions of papers during their studies at High School or University. Whilst having access to such an enormous trove of knowledge at your fingertips is regarded as a normal part of living in the information age, we feel that the sheer volume of knowledge available diminishes each individual accomplishment. We think of ourselves as the vinyl reproduction of scientific work, beautifully packaged, curated and in a format that encourages contemplation of the singular work, rather than the vast collections of poorly scanned, low quality pdf’s which have; until now, been the only way you could consume these remarkable pieces of history.

By carefully restoring, printing and binding each of these papers, they offer a collectible range of products that preserve each piece of knowledge, making each more widely accessible, and adding a tangible dimension to the reading experience.

The product range is available in two varieties: One a side-stitched, archival-quality card and paper design certified by Forestry Stewardship Council, the other an authentic vellum and parchment production produced by the world’s best vellum printing company.

Based in Melbourne, the company was founded by four young professionals, passionate about the curation and distribution of knowledge, who believe that these keystone discoveries deserve to be cared for and easily accessible to all.

The Kickstarter campaign will fund the first publication run, and will include papers from revered scientific authors such as Mendel, Watson and Crick, Einstein, Turing & Hubble.
