About This Project
I am a contemporary artist working in public venues where reflection and discussion of artworks is the intended outcome for audiences experiencing these exhibitions. I am producing Scaled Discords as an interactive art experience to facilitate the continuation of discussions on racial inequity. Scaled Discords is an experiential sculpture series that uses a conceptual, visual and sonic vocabulary to ask audiences to question the status quo of social hierarchies in our society and the relationships which exist in our communities between institutional authorities and the people they serve.
In the video above, you will see a test run of a few samples of how this art installation works. In its finality, Scaled Discords will have 20+ sculptural, sonic tops that audiences will be asked to manipulate physically. Through their performances, arrangements and sound experiences. The experience will allow audiences to explore symbolic power relations between the white, black and red tops.
The funding of this project will cover the costs to fabricate a complete set of sonic art tops with design improvements and the shipping costs of this exhibition as it tours public art institutions across America.
