SalesAgility, the open source SugarCRM consultancy, announce the launch of a crowdfunding campaign on October 1st, 2014, to fund the development of 100 SuiteCRM enhancements in 400 days.
London, UK – SalesAgility, the authors of SuiteCRM, the world’s leading open source CRM application are reaching out to the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform to seek funding to assist them to do four things to accelerate the development of SuiteCRM and to make it a better open source project:
Firstly, most of the funds will be used to recruit new developers to the full-time development team for SuiteCRM. SuiteCRM 8.0 contains 100 enhancements and it’s planned to deliver all of them in monthly releases in 400 days. Some of the enhancements are large and complex and some are relatively small but useful. By following open source methods of release early, release often, the community can benefit from new functionality early in the project.
Secondly, the funds will also be used to employ a full-time Technical Author to write world-class developer and user documentation. Like many open source projects, the project documentation is not great and the intention is to change that.
Thirdly, all the code and governance will be put into an arms length, not-for-profit foundation to protect the project for the long term and to assure the community that SuiteCRM is and always will be an open source project.
Finally, SalesAgility are going to provide a home to the millions of SugarCRM Community Edition users who will have nowhere to go once SugarCRM stops supporting Community Edition in summer 2015. SuiteCRM will stay compatible with SugarCRM for at least the next year. This means that organisations and companies that depend on Community Edition to support their business processes can upgrade easily to SuiteCRM and enjoy the umbrella of an inclusive open source community.
“Put the October 1st date in your diary and support the project by making a pledge. If you have an interest in CRM and open source, then please push this out to your networks and communities and help the world’s greatest open source CRM project become better still.”
In the 11 months since its launch, SuiteCRM has established a large footprint and is probably the world’s leading open source CRM project. The project’s mission is to have more users than SalesForce and Dynamics and to prove that open source is not just a business model, but a development, support and collaboration model that will dominate computing for decades to come. SalesAgility believes that with the support of the community, that goal can be achieved by 2019.
The campaign launches on October 1st, 2014 on Kickstarter. SalesAgility’s CEO, Greg Soper, is asking for the support of the open source community and organisations that use SugarCRM Community Edition.
“Put the October 1st date in your diary and support the project by making a pledge. If you have an interest in CRM and open source, then please push this out to your networks and communities and help the world’s greatest open source CRM project become better still.”
