Berlin — Starting in March 2022, a family will leave their everyday life and start living on a sailing boat to travel the world. The goal is to raise awareness of environmental pollution and promote a more sustainable lifestyle. To get the message out as soon as possible, they launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter on 12 December 2021. For every dollar the family will pull one pound of plastic out of the ocean.
Story
Lena and Chris are the founders of Mydollarbills.com, a Green Personal Finance Blog. Through this activity, they have many contacts with sustainable companies and environmental organizations. But the work behind the laptop was rapidly not enough anymore. They want to go out and take an active part in the current development. So the idea for “Sailing with the Starks” was born.
What is “Sailing with the Starks “?
Plastic in our oceans and environmental pollution are problems our beautiful planet faces. For family Stark, it’s no longer enough just to engage digitally. They want to make a difference actively.
“Sailing with the Starks” is a new web-series covering sailing, sustainability, and family life. From the end of December 2021, a weekly video will be available to watch on YouTube, and from the first year at sea, the family will create a documentary.
In the existing blog, sustainable companies, CO2 reduction technologies, and environmental organizations have been published as articles until now. “Sailing with the Starks” will visit these companies on their trip in person or virtually and showing them in the videos. This will allow the already existing innovations on sustainability to be directed to many people.
Why “Sailing with the Starks”?
Stark is the family name, so the name for the project was found very quickly. Substituting one letter gives the name “Sailing with the Sharks,” and sharks here represent all the habitats and ecosystems that Sailing with the Starks aims to protect.
