Journey to Mictlan, a brand-new fantasy web series, is coming to free on-line streaming platforms later this year. The series was created and will also be directed by an upcoming writer/producer Yessania Cheyenne who also produced and wrote Rooftop Sentiments a short film that was chosen for official selection at the International Monarch Film Festival in 2015, and runner up in the Latino Film Market in 2017.
The eight-episode limited 5-10-minute web series follows, Mexican American teen Mia Ortega who is haunted by the deaths of her Mother Maria Ortega, and Sister Sofia Ortega after a terrible accident while cliff diving. Wrought with pain and a need to have her family back she seeks out the help of a consultant to the dead named Reina, a woman with a secret who resembles Mia’s mother. Reina sets Mia off on an impossible voyage to bring her family back from the dead before the end of the third day of Día de Muertos, only for Mia to end up on an ever-endless journey to a whole other world… A journey to the Aztec underworld Mictlan.
The web series will star an all women cast of four upcoming actresses for the roles of the lead characters: Mia Ortega and Reina; and supporting characters: Carmilia and Sofia Ortega. The character role of Mia’s mother Maria Ortega will be played by the same actress as Reina’s character. This series will be both produced in Spanish and English.
The development and preproduction of the web series has been officially completed and will be filmed on location in either New York or Atlanta. To raise funds to produce the web series, we will be launching a worldwide Indiegogo campaign in June 2018.
