The 3feet Factory is excited to present a children’s story written by Lori Dierig and illustrated by Charlie Padgett. Now we just need your help getting it published.
Our project is simple. We began with the tale of a child named Quentin, who cannot understand idioms and other nonliteral adult expressions. He is afraid his imagination is going to run away (as he overheard his mom say during a phone conversation), and as a kid who loves to play, create, and pretend, Quentin is horrified at the thought of losing that special quality. Now he must use his imagination in order to keep it.
He slyly invents traps to keep his precious imagination in his head, where it belongs (imagine mosquito netting, cardboard boxes, and ski masks), until his teacher wises up to his antics and reassures him that if he uses his gift, he will always have it.
Each of us can relate to certain misunderstandings of the colloquialisms of our language. This story is a fun way to relive the way we thought as children and to enjoy seeing today’s children relate to the ever-determined Quentin and his dilemma.
Runaway Imagination comes alive with energy through the dramatic illustrations of Quentin’s real-life surroundings as well as those of his imaginary world. You could even see you own likeness in one of the characters’ faces (a classmate, or perhaps a sea monster!)
