Let’s stand for better earth by supporting 100% organic cotton. Looking around at our planet, we see nothing but opportunity. We see the opportunity to live our lives, to pursue happiness, and to do the right thing. Unfortunately, many industries have done the wrong thing for far too long, and the textile industry is no exception. There are many fashion, clothing, and accessory producers that never consider their impact on the environment at all. At Purple and Pure, that is not us. We are standing up for the future that we want to see and making ourselves a model of what is possible in this industry.
Toward that end, we have committed ourselves to producing 100% organic cotton bags that will raise standards industry-wide. Not only replacing the plastic bags and reducing overall demand (and thus production) of plastic, all of our cotton bags will be Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified, which means that they will adhere to the high ecological and social supply chain criteria that GOTS sets independently. These criteria include: GMO-free, synthetic pesticide-free, and fertilizer-free farms; eco-friendly dyes; fair trade employment in accordance with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards), and ethical manufacturing.
We are at a critical point in our global history: pollution has raged on for far too long, and we cannot abide by it. We all need to come together to reduce plastic usage and de-incentivize plastic production. Organic cotton can do that, and as a bonus, it is also a healthy material for people to use day after day. Making organic cotton affordable, we want to maximize its usage worldwide.
We grow all our cotton in India, where weavers then turn it into cotton canvas and OXY bleach it. Employing labour in India as well, we pay our workers a fair wage, maintain a safe working environment, and employ adults only.
