My name is Ian James and I handcraft a complete line of leather and canvas bags for both women and men under my brand Ian James New York. I am raising funds via Kickstarter in order to purchase the industrial sewing machine needed to handcraft the bags. To view the campaign, click here. The line features backpacks, handbags, messengers, totes, and small goods built to infuse casual elegance into your life as well as thoroughly stow away your belongings. It is hard to find well made luxurious looking bags without the luxurious price tag. Ian James New York solves the problem by creating modern bags that are reasonably prices. If the rest of your is prepped for the day, shouldn’t your bag be as well?
Offered as pledges is the Spring ’14 collection which is a combination of the current line as well as upgraded pieces. This is a carefully curated selection of men’s, women’s, and unisex styles that are fully appropriate for work and leisure. Integral to my design process is the need to create bags that can survive city life as well as maintain durability for whatever you throw at them. Details such as unique yet accessible outside pockets to easily fit necessities and deceptively large main compartments make these bags great for daily use. Yes, it is important to functional bags, but why not do it with a little bit of style? Not everyone wants to have bags that reminds them of high school. These are quality bags for the professional, artist, soccer mom, and college student and anyone else who falls in between.
With the pledges I will be able to buy an industrial sewing machine built for leather sewing as well as the materials needed to fulfill/ship the orders. I love to design and create these bags, however it cannot be done without your help! By pledging you will be supporting a designer that locally sources materials and personally handcrafts every bag. Isn’t it cool to know that your bag is built by a real person and not by a machine or a sweatshop in the third world?
I craft my bags with genuine pebbled leather, 10oz. & 15oz. cotton canvas, copper rivets, and nickel hardware. The leather and hardware are sourced here in NYC, while the canvas is manufactured in Georgia. You can be sure that your bag is made using quality materials supporting American businesses and labor.
