“Broeder: Secrets of Ohr” is a single player, 2D Action-Adventure RPG that brings a new look and genre to classical fantasy JRPG games. It takes place in a late 1920s / early 1930s-inspired, post-steam punk world; here technology’s growth is at a standstill following a Great War that has left the world’s economy in a state of depression. By default, you play as Joseph Green (Joey) a young bounty hunter who (after accepting a shady mission not approved by the Bounty Hunter’s Union) endangers those he cares for back home. He finds himself entangled into the destinies of two other people. One being a young soldier freshly out of Academy (Bradley Ansgar), and the second is a quirky but friendly herbologist named Azel Lyria. Though each character has their own motives, they equally find themselves enthralled in the remnants of a war everyone hoped had ended almost ten years ago. photo titlebroeder_zpscb63e7ac.png

History:
The story of “Broeder” has been developing and maturing for years prior to development. It is based off a manuscript by EA Holland, director and producer of the project. The goal was to take this world which already had so much depth and detail and create a world that people could get lost within; a world that people could feel a part of. And thus, development on the game launched in 2009. Early on, it was established that quality graphics, detailed maps, and unique character portraits would be needed to make this game stand out and create a world that people could not only imagine, but essentially feel. However, funding from the beginning became a major obstacle. All of the current graphics for the game have come out of pocket, at first from part time jobs and (at times) even from food money. The decision to go commercial in December 2012 was a major step in the right direction being that (even while acquiring the new resources needed became more costly) the quality of the custom tiles and graphics better reflected the team’s expectations. This allows for more customizable features to make the game as vivid and exciting as possible. Theoretically, the player could adventure for many hours beyond main plot. Like “episodes,” if you will. This would include (but is not necessarily limited to) meeting new characters, going on various side quests, mini games, unlocking new maps and towns, earning titles, going on bounty hunting missions, learning trades, and more.
