Hi there! My name is Sonia. I am currently a PhD student in London, and I am writing on my thesis, so I’ve been spending more time back home in Romania. Next autumn I need to go back to London for longer stays and I need your guys’ help to cover for my expenses in living 2 months in such an expensive city as London. As I am approaching the final stages of my PhD, I need to spend more time in London in order to be able to work closely with my supervisors for best results. In the future I plan to publish my research as a book.
The costs can be broken down as follows:
Going to and from London: £250 (around $363)
London commute and transport for 2 months: £125 (around $181)
Rent, taxes, bills: £2,500 (around $3,627)
Living expenses: £500 (around $725)
Other expenses: £225 (around $326)
TOTAL: £3,500 (around $5,100)around $5,100)
I have been largely self-funded until now (with a number of smaller grants and funding for travel, software and conferences). I have reached a point where I should start writing on my thesis, but my funds have largely run out. So I need to devote my time and energy to the writing part of my work.
I need to travel back and forth from Romania to the UK and hold extensive research trips. This will be done either with sensitive materials I own and cannot be transported back and forth and constant visits to Bucharest libraries and institutions.
My research deals with women’s fashion in interwar Bucharest as a key to identifying the social, political and economic inner-workings of interwar Romanian society. This is part of an endeavor to make a significant contribution to knowledge in a field that has little representation on the international academic scene.
