Los Angeles, CA – Starting with the observation that many of the best minds don’t sell, but trade. Single Purity announced today the launch of their campaign to create a platform that trades critical past due bills (gas, water, student loan payments, etc.) for art and ideas. The campaign starts January 5, 2015 and ends March 1st. The campaign can be found at www.indiegogo.com
In the words of Juan Paredes, one of the creators, “This is very important to me because many of the best thinkers and artists that I met and documented last year producing Blood, Berries or Butter, Gold, Guns and God and October Obsession…. had amazing ideas or art they refused to sell out of principle (remember Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon, Money….). Great ideas they wanted to give (not sell) to the world.” Paredes adds, “ They were Ok trading as needed for necessities. But they didn’t believe in the process of buying, selling and currency mediation. This got me thinking. Basic bills today: Water, Electricity, Gas, Government Student Loans, Personal loans to parents/friends/siblings, card readers, transportation to and from a project. Bills – of the past, of things already done, involving basics are hard to trade… And yet they should be paid. Not paying mom or your friend back who got you out of a bind is not right. The idea of Single Purity is to create a mechanism to trade bills for art. When we are successful, we will have created an alternative way to keep ideas going and artists alive.”
Paredes kicked off the fundraising effort for Single Purity by making available all his fine art and behind the scenes pictures in hi-res. For 5 dollars, a patron will get an email of any of the pictures he or she selects. For 55 dollars, Paredes emails the picture and deletes the original. Paredes is also making available for collectors his computer, hard drives, and phones and any pic not yet deleted for higher-level sponsors.
Single Purity keeps artists out of the streets, creative and moving forward. It keeps patrons on the cutting edge. It starts experimentation on new progressive funding mechanisms that match artist values and living needs.
