DON’T CROSS YOUR FINGERS, TOUCH WOOD!

Inventor, pilot, entrepreneur Eve MacFarlane’s latest business idea, ‘Wooden Bet On It’ came to her whilst completing her last pilot’s licence exam at 3,600 ft as she nervously thought to herself, “touch wood this goes well” and looked around her cabin for something made of wood, only to find toughened plastic, metal and instruments.

20 months later, with her pilot’s licence gained, Eve has followed that original inspiration through to research and design, creating prototypes and undertaking extensive manufacturing options, before launching her first run of recycled good luck cards that can be carried everywhere.

The business-card sized wooden good luck charm that can be individually personalised by laser cutting beautiful designs, words, images or patterns are already in back pockets, handbags, car dashboards and office meeting rooms around the world.

Eve says that whether people are true believers, superstitious or cynical non-believers, customers come from across the spectrum.

“In this digital age, people are loving the concept of having something beautiful, personal and so tactile that you just can’t resist picking it up, stroking it, touching it and buying them for friends and family.”

Eve is looking for investors to take her prototypes to the next level of production. The name is trademarked. A number of shops are interested in having Wooden Bet On It Cards on display.

“It’s been an all-consuming journey to get it from my original inspiration to an actual finished product 20 months later, but every step of the way has been absolutely vital to getting to next place of discovery. Hearing feedback from customers using the prototypes just keeps feeding my passion for progressing. Right now I just need the final push of funding to buy a laser cutter so I can launch full production mode to respond to current demand.”

The purpose of the Pozible crowd funding campaign (www.pozible.com/woodenbetonit) is to buy the laser required to get the business up and flying, as the cost of outsourcing a laser cutter makes it impractical… Eve says “having my own laser cutter with software, changes these dynamics, it will be run from home initially, and once in shops, fairs and stalls, will look to expand with addition of a 3D Printer and diversify product range.” Also the funds acquired with be put towards creating the website where customers can upload their own images or saying to have us create their one of a kind Wooden Bet On It card.

Any additional funds raised will go directly towards purchasing display stands, website hosting. Basically to get the concept out of Eves’ head and into people’s wallets, purses and man-bags!
Another business premise is to outsource the laser cutter to other businesses, Eve has already been approached by a number of people looking to use her skill set to help promote their own businesses using her laser.

One story Eve tells is of a special request from a person with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) and mild Asperger’s Syndrome to create them a Wooden Bet On It card as they had the compulsion and need to touch wood many times a day, this in their words “would save their bacon”, not only did she create one for them but as requested, a “Light-bulb” joke was engraved on it too!

Eve knows that by making herself part of an equation; that her, the idea she has, and a good team behind her can make “Epic things happen!”

“This project to me represents an innovative way to use existing technology to produce something unique, something quirky, that you can also be proud of and want to show off to your friends too.”
