Lugano, Switzerland — 13 October 2015 | SizeGenie, a small and portable personal body scanner has launched a Kickstarter campaign today, aiming to raise $60,000 to start production of the device which helps users buy clothes that fit them perfectly – especially when shopping online.
Personal body scanning device, sizegenie, launches on Kickstarter to make trying on clothes a thing of the past.
– Solves the sizing challenges for people shopping online and prevents the returns and refunds problems for retailers
– The device accurately takes your measurements in a matter of seconds, helping you get the perfect fit
– Takes the 34 measurements required by tailors and fashion designers to create bespoke garments
– Prices for the small, foldable and portable device start at $29
– Fashion companies can integrate “Fit Me” button on online shopping sites
– Inventors eventually to create teams of shoppers with similar sizes and taste
The user simply stands in front of the device and in a matter of seconds, SizeGenie will take 34 precise measurements to give an exact size, including all the details a tailor or designer needs to create fully bespoke garments.
The device uses a basic video camera and series of infra-red sensors to accurately take the measurements. It was designed by Lugano-based BodyCloud, a team specialising in developing medical technology solutions. SizeGenie is the result of two-year effort to miniaturise a medical body-scanning system the size of a room into a portable and foldable device. At the same time, the team focused on making it affordable for people to use privately at home. The final product will cost $29 and provide millimetrical precision, and users will receive the SizeGenie in a normal envelope.
“People don’t have time to shop for clothes and at the same time don’t feel confident to shop for clothes online, because they never know if they will fit,” said Tom Brooks, Business Developer of BodyCloud. “For example a medium for one brand could be a small or a large for others. So much time is wasted with double orders, returns and refunds when shopping.”
“We have been working with scanning experts and the fashion industry to really change the way people buy clothes online. The SizeGenie website will be integrated with brands online via a ‘Fit Me’ button that will prompt user to take measurements – making online shopping even easier for consumers,” added Pietro Veragouth, creator of BodyCloud.
The SizeGenie Kickstarter campaign, live at www.kickstarter.com, will last 40 days and is aimed at consumers who want the convenience to measure themselves at home and shop online for bespoke suits, dresses and sport apparels.
SizeGenie will be also useful for small and big online tailors, fashion designers and retailers who want to offer a way for their users to filter products based on their body shape: for them, two separate tiers offer bundle purchase of the device and an integration kit.
