Country Music artist, Ronnie McDowell is bringing live music and great food to his hometown of Portland, Tennessee in the Spring of 2014. Georgia Mae’s Restaurant & Lounge, named after his mother, is set to open on Portland’s Main Street in the former location of a local grocery store. “We will offer traditional southern home cooking, but also several menu items that you can’t get just anywhere,” said McDowell. In addition to good food, customers will enjoy browsing the walls of 40 years of memorabilia from McDowell’s personal collection. Weekend visitors will experience live music.
“I want to feature some really good up and coming musical acts as well as star appearances on a regular basis,” said McDowell, “I’ll also be a regular performer.” McDowell started the fundraising campaign for Georgia Mae’s several months ago with an idea to sell personalized paving bricks to reach his goal of raising $250,000.00 to cover the building’s purchase and renovation. Pretty soon, word of what he was doing spread beyond the borders of his hometown and became nationally known. Since then, McDowell has started offering several other incentives to people who donate online at the popular website indiegogo.com including, private house concerts, personal paintings and free food for a year. “I’ve always been driven by my dreams.” “I believe that if a person is driven, they can build their dream, even if its one brick at a time.” McDowell skyrocketed to success in 1977 following the death of Elvis Presley after writing the popular tribute song “The King Is Gone.” Together with several other hit songs under his belt, McDowell has sold millions of records and played thousands of shows.
