Pacific Northwest Jazz singer/saxophonist composer has a campaign on Kickstarter to release second full length album of all original music. The Music was recorded over 2014 and 2015 at WSU recording Studio in Pullman WA with Brian Ward, Dan Buckvich, Riley Gray, Brendan McMurphy, Josh Simon and members of the seattle band “Industrial Revalation” D’Vonne Lewis, Evan Flory-Barnes, Josh Rawlings and Ahamafule Oluo. The music is being mixed by David Miner at Chartreuse Muffin Studios in Seattle. The album artwork includes photos from Death Valley and a ghost town called Rhyolite by Kelli Breeton-Fairall.

All songs were written by Rachel Bade-McMurphy, with some of them co-written by Brendan McMurphy and Riley Gray. The music is modern jazz fusing various elements of rock, grunge, and just plain art music. The songs are haunting and emotionally charged and very much match the theme “The Closing Door” which could mark not only the end of one phase, but a new start. Songs such as “On and on” and “Leaving You” tell the story of heartbreak, longing and endings while, while “Underway” seems to hint at some sort of warning, “Trouble” gives us a beautiful story of vulnerability and searching and “The Uprising” seems to be sung from an outside perspective to someone broken-hearted with a message that everything will be ok and leaves us with the beautiful hook “hold on to make it last”.

The instrumentals have a very lyrical and melodic contour and all the music has a strong rhythmic under current and top notch interaction among all the players. The music is 100% jazz while also crossing many boundaries, mixing and fusing with many elements that also make it both interesting and approachable even for the non-jazz listener. Rachel Bade-McMurphy is a Pacific Northwest artist who grew up in several rural communities in Eastern Washington. She went to music school at Washington State university. She teaches music in the Mead School District in Spokane WA and is currently pursuing her masters in jazz at Eastern Washington University. The album is scheduled to be released April 2017. Pre-order your copy of the CD on Kickstarter by Feb 15th 2017.
