Nonprofit Romanian Organization registered as “Neagoe I. Camelia PFA” sole trader launched Generosity Crowdfunding Campaign on Indiegogo for institutionalized children.

“Open through Dance” is a 4 month social and cultural project based in Bucharest, that aims to use contemporary dance, through classes and art work, as a form of cultural education for children in the Child Welfare System aged between 9 and 17 years old.

Most of the children in Romania get institutionalized following situations involving violations of child rights within the family, emotional abuse and physical abuse. According to a statistical study, during the first 6 months of 2016 there have been approx. 6700 such cases, from which 1555 were solved by placing children in foster care.

While working under contract with such a group, Camelia Neagoe, our choreographer, noticed the positive effects that dance classes have on them:

“I expected all this to happen when I first started working with this group of children. But what I didn’t quite anticipate was the sense of purpose that they found in our classes, their extreme enthusiasm for an art form they have never been exposed to before.”

We call the movement #educationthroughculture and the activities include: contemporary dance classes, singing classes, going to performance viewings with the children workshops with choreographers and final showings of the created cultural work

For 90% of the project’s total value is funded by The Administration of the National Cultural Fund. For the rest of 10%, a crowdfunding campaign is scheduled to launch on the 9th of October 2017 that will last approximately 30 days. The goal is to raise 1700$ to cover expenses related to the project’s activities.

We provide a unique opportunity for 20 children registered at the General Department for Child Welfare and Protection, DGASPC Sector 3 Bucharest, to positively impact them in a way that targets a better quality of life. We’re also helping them develop their creativity and increase their access to cultural fields.

About the project “Open through Dance”: Already in its second year of existence, it is organized by Camelia Neagoe and Ana Maria Trandafirescu and made possible by support from the cultural community in Bucharest. We remind here of: Replika Theater, Ministry of Sport and Youth Brasov and co-funder AFCN.
