Even more compact, even lighter and above all: even easier than its predecessors. With the latest folding kayak BATO, origami design company from Antwerp ONAK wants to get people of all ages hooked on the pleasure of boating – without compromising on durability, quality and ease of use.

Business partners and self proclaimed FOLDBOYS Frederik Van Heereveld & Tim De Rydt have very clear views: boating should be accessible to everyone. And preferably in the most convenient way with a boat that is easy to fold and unfold, to carry and to store.

The BATO: A compact and accessible newcomer in the ONAK family

Whereas ONAK previously focused on the niche market of canoeists, their newest BATO aims to appeal to everyone who wants to relax by boating. Not only is the BATO, like any of its predecessors, easily foldable – with its barely 8 kilos in weight, it is also a lot lighter and more compact than, say, the ONAK-X.

This ensures that the boat is not only convenient to transport (easy to take on vacation and during a day at the seaside or a river close to home for example), it’s also even easier to store than its predecessors. An ideal formula for those who live in the city or have little storage space.

“We want to get people of all ages hooked on boating and believe the BATO is the ideal tool for this. Easy to carry, easy to unfold and easy to store – this folding boat has it all. And it looks beautiful too!”

Compact origami design solutions for everyday objects

Tiny living – it’s one of today’s most topical trends. Consumers are consciously choosing to downsize, to live smaller and to no longer invest in square footage but in experiences that enrich their lives – a movement that FOLDBOYS Frederik Van Heereveld & Tim De Rydt gladly welcome with open arms.

Their belief however is that living smaller or downsizing, doesn’t need to bring obstacles or sacrifices. That’s why ONAK is constantly looking for origami solutions for everyday objects that allow for smarter and more compact living, without imposing restrictions or having to compromise on comfort.

A first for ONAK: launching via crowdfunding on Kickstarter

Designed in Antwerp, made in Belgium – the core of ONAK as an authentic origami design company is preserved with the launch of its new boat. The mission: to offer adventure and relaxation in an easy, compact and above all accessible way to both the youngest and oldest amongst us. That is why ONAK is launching the new BATO via crowdfunding platform Kickstarter. . A decision with which they would like to reinforce their “for everyone” mission!

About ONAK:
Antwerp-based company ONAK is thé Belgian pioneer in making foldable products via different origami techniques. Founders and bosom friends Frederik Van Heereveld & Tim De Rydt – who call themselves the ‘FOLDBOYS’ – have already launched 4 new durable folding boats since their start, each aimed at adventurers and pleasure seekers. They built on, on the existing original ONAK canoe and the original origami folding concept, thus optimizing where necessary.

In the near future, ONAK would like to expand its range to include utensils other than just boats. Based on the principle that everything should be compact and yet durable – ONAK is currently actively working on new foldable replacements for everyday necessities.
