Now introducing Go Pharaoh, the newest entry from Softstorms LLC. Go Pharaoh is a fun-filled game with a female lead character. It’s an AI strategy game app (with tabletop version too) for families, friends & YOU!
Gamers can invite Facebook friends, or square-off against random players online via Game Center, outsmarting and outrunning your adversaries in this modern mobile strategy game. Or, compete against Horus-AI, the app’s built-in Artificial Intelligence. Set in the glorious Ancient Civilization of Egypt, Go Pharaoh (and it’s tabletop version, sold separately) combines dice-rolls with good old brain work and Role Play Gaming (“RPG”) for a contest that can be completed in minutes, or go on for hours! Be the first to build a Pyramid, collecting gems and fending off cranky crocs. But beware the QURSE? Qards, with their pernicious plagues. After all, it wouldn’t quite be Ancient Egypt without them, would it?
Currently, there are a disproportionate number of male lead characters in arcade and console games. That trend continues even now with mobile apps. Which can result in stereotyped game play where female characters are either damsels in distress, witches and vampires, or scantily clothed fantasy warriors with exaggerated anatomy. So, we set out to create realistic female Pharaoh protagonists—something which was not hard to do because historically there had been a number of women Pharaohs and/or Queens. In our nod to gender equality, six female avatars equal their male counterparts in ability. Go Pharaoh also differs from other mobile games in that it seeks to be inclusive.By deliberate design, the Pharaohz facial features symbolize recognizable racial groups globally. So, an Asian adolescent can play an “oriental-looking” feminine role-model who is beauty, brains and brawn, and able to come in first! And, unusually, there is no actual or simulated human-on-human violence.
SoftStorms, LLC is an Indie outfit comprising folk who enjoy mobile game apps ourselves. We yearned to communally play a retro or nostalgic game online and offline, but had played Monopoly, Scrabble and Chess too many times. Our kids, too, kept reaching for their cellphones and tablets! What’s the other big reason we’re building this app? Not just our kids, but kids in general! We know they enjoy using mobile devices. So, we won’t fight against that. Great movies like Harry Potter and Jurassic Park get kids to read books on which such movies are based. So too, Go Pharaoh has a tabletop board version* and, we bet that everybody likes to roll the dice sometime. So, we created a game grownups and kids could download and enjoy individually during a trip or play passionately together around a kitchen table, making for a family closeness that these days is just a faded memory.
A mobile game app should be as fun and imaginative as its players. That’s why we’re designing Go Pharaoh with full touchscreen capability and a simple-to-use interface. We fervently feel that this app will have wide appeal; it has a familiarity feel to it, thanks to elements reminiscent of classic games like Monopoly, Snakes & Ladders, and Ludo. Please share our campaign with friends and family to help us reach our goal. Thank you!
