Award-winning film makers use Indiegogo to add final polish.

The first full length feature film by award winning film makers Jonathan Reid-Edwards and Kate Tuck was shot without any crowdfunding – only private finance and personal loans. Only now the shooting is fully wrapped has the team has turned to Indiegogo to fund the final £15,000 needed to add the essential touches – special effects, soundtrack and promotion – to bring The Good Neighbour to the big screen in 2018.

Jon and Kate formed Blackhouse Pictures in 2012 and have released a range of short films that have amassed extraordinary accolades including Vimeo Staff Pick (Hadley TK-421), Short of the Week on shortoftheweek.com (Hadley TK-421) and Best British Horror Award at the British Horror Independent Film Festival (Dans Le Noir). However, for this full length feature that tackles its central character’s diagnosis with multiple sclerosis – and how she comes to terms with it while harbouring an alien – needed extra funds to bring the best in the talent already in place.

This crowdfund is not a standard crowdfund: the amount sought is relatively low at £15,000, the team is already near the top of their game rather than wannabes, and all the raw materials are already in place.

This non-standard approach has helped Jonathan and Kate already raise over 75% of their goal before the campaign is even half way through.

Kate Tuck, who is producing the film said:

“We had never considered crowdfunding, almost until the film was finished. It was only then that we realised that we could probably achieve 90% of our potential on a tight budget with talented actors and accommodating location hosts – but we could never reach 100%. Jon and I have funded most of this through private finance and personal loans but we needed to reach out.”

Jonathan Reid-Edwards, writer and director said:

“When we opened the gates we were astonished by the amount of people who not only got our vision but shared it almost instantly. We have seen some quite high profile angel investors put in some significant sums but also small sums from people who want to be part of a brave film dealing honestly with some difficult material.

“We’ve been bowled over by the response and it has opened our eyes to what can be achieved when you share your dream with the world. It leads to connections you never expect and outcomes we couldn’t have hoped for.”
