Plano, TX – On Oct 27th, memoripod, a new device that makes it easier to store, organize, and share photos, launched on Kickstarter and quickly raised over $6k in funding. Described as a “Facebook companion,” memoripod works with any digital camera or smartphone and functions as a smart storage device that also automatically syncs photos to a private Facebook album, which can then be shared with friends.
“It’s really easy to use. Just set it up, and everything happens hassle free. While you’re doing your everyday things on Facebook, for example, adding captions and tagging your friends, memoripod does all the work for you, tirelessly.” – Al Villarica, Founder.
memoripod comes with a built-in 2TB hard drive and can be used to store photos and videos from a digital camera or smartphone, eliminating duplicates automatically. It can also back up photos and videos to an external hard drive, a private cloud system such as Dropbox or Flickr, and another memoripod. Aside from using the usual USB cable to transfer photos and videos to memoripod, users can wirelessly sync their media to memoripod, which can then automatically upload them to Facebook, where it can be tagged, captioned, etc.
To share the full-sized original photos and videos with friends, users simply need to tag individuals on Facebook. memoripod will then email the images, or send the files to their friend’s memoripod. Users can also enjoy photos in their home by simply plugging a digital photo frame into their memoripod.
“We had so many pictures and videos from so many different sources — a digital camera, a couple of iPhones, an Android phone, a GoPro. They were stored in so many places and it was impossible to keep track of them all, let alone make sure they were all safe. On top of it all, we kept getting asked to share the originals with friends and family.” – Al Villarica, Founder
“memoripod was born out of the need to pull all our pictures and videos together and make it as easy as possible to do all the things that we wanted to do with our memories — protect, organize, share, and enjoy them.” – Al Villarica, Founder.
Rather than going a traditional funding route, the team decided to take the project to the Kickstarter community to attract early-adopters and provide exclusive rewards that can be claimed in exchange for backing the project. The funding will go towards fine-tuning the product and the initial production run.
The project will be accepting pledges until Nov 26th, during which time photo sharing enthusiasts can pre-order one of the first memoripods. For more information, check out the project here or contact the creator below.
