The first step in Cutting the Cord is a good over-the-air (OTA) antenna.

The Cable Cutter is a combination of two unique products that can be used together, or independently of one another: the first is one of the best UHF/VHF antennas on the market today; the second is a custom window bracket designed specifically to fit most double hung windows. By bringing these two products together, we are going to make FREE television accessible to everyone.

High quality, free HDTV is all around us. Most Americans have access to the major networks – ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, CW, PBS – based on where they live. However, most of us pay a fortune every year just so the cable companies can deliver it to us. We have talked to hundreds of cable users and the average consensus seems to to be this:

  • Most are paying $140/month on average.
  • Most watch 10 channels regularly of the 300 you get with cable TV.
  • Of the 10 stations that most watch on a regular basis, you get 6 of them for FREE with the Cable Cutter antenna!

Did you know that using a digital HD antenna will receive a better quality picture with far less compression than what you currently have to PAY for with cable and satellite companies!
Antennas have been around since the 1950s. What makes this one so special?

The Cable Cutter Antenna will provide you with more channels, better reception, and has a rugged durability to make it last a long time. We worked with a team of highly specialized Radio Frequency engineers, including a brilliant physicist, to come up with an optimized design for digital OTA broadcasts. The Cable Cutter Antenna has performed better, on average, than many of the leading antennas on the market today including:

  • Antennas Direct ClearStream4 HDTV Antenna
  • TERK FDTVO Omni Directional Amplified Flat Outdoor Antenna
  • Mohu Leaf Paper-Thin Indoor HDTV Antenna
  • RCA ANT751R Outdoor Antenna Optimized for Digital Reception

Easy Installation

You can setup and use the antenna independently from the bracket. The best installation spot is outside, but if you are in a high-rise then try to place near a window. To setup and install the antenna in this manner will take you no more than 15 minutes.

If you do go full Cable Cutter Antenna and WIndow Bracket route, the installation is simple and takes no more than 60 minutes to complete. The bracket was designed to be a temporary fixture that a renter could take with them when they leave. Thus, there are no screws or permanent attachments to fasten to the window sill. Rather, everything is down by use of padded torque leveling knobs. Keep those landlords happy and get your full security deposit when you move out!

My grandparents had an antenna and got rid of it… you sure this thing works?

YES! Prior to cable, satellite, and now streaming options, the only way to watch TV was by using an antenna. Cable has been growing in popularity since the 80s and most Americans (89%) now have some form of paid television subscription.

So what changed? In 2009, the FCC mandated that major broadcast networks switch from analog to digital television broadcasting. This means that we now are able to pick up amazing High Definition digital television for free. No more ‘snowy’ channels or rotating the ‘rabbit ear’ antenna on top of the TV to get the picture to come in. As a result, more and more people are fleeing the high monthly costs of cable and reverting back to a free television.

However, the current antennas on the market today are still not truly optimized for this newer Digital UHF/VHF broadcasts. I cut the cord in 2010 and used over 7 different antennas until I realized I needed to design and build my own to get the best possible reception.

In order for cable companies to offer you 30+ channels in High Definition, they have to compress the signals quite a bit to get them squeezed through the same pipe to get to your television. The irony is that this free OTA television from an antenna yields a better picture than cable or satellite and is visibly noticeable on larger television sets! The reason is that these OTA television broadcasts are not compressed nearly as much, so you get the true, high-fidelity, digital signal which yields a better picture.
