Today over a million pounds of sugar will be wasted in coffee shops and restaurants.  Teaspoon by teaspoon it settles to the bottom of a coffee cup and does not get thoroughly mixed in, eventually being thrown away.  But imagine a disposable coffee cup that instantly reduces paper use in coffee shops and restaurants by 15 % and prevents more than a million pounds of sugar from being wasted each day.  The Little Giant Coffee Cup saves sugar and paper in 3 easy ways:

1. The Little Giant’s design incorporates a cool touch barrier into the wall structure of the cup, there’s no need for a separate paper sleeve.  Thus, 2 pieces of paper become 1.

2. The Little Giant replaces stirrers with a mixing propeller that spans the entire height and width of the cup, thereby thoroughly blending all the sugar in the bottom of the cup where it often sits unmixed, and subsequently gets thrown in the trash.

3. The Little Giant’s mixing propeller stays inside the cup, so it can be reused.  And as well, because it stays inside the cup, there’s no coffee dripping on countertops that has to be cleaned up with napkins.

In the United States 83% of all adults drink coffee, and worldwide more than 2.25 billion cups of coffee are served each day.  Some people drink their coffee without sugar, and yet for those who drink coffee with sugar you are almost certain to have had the experience of mixing sugar into your coffee with a stirrer, then tasting it and adding more sugar, only to get to the bottom of the cup and discover there was plenty of sugar in the cup, it just didn’t get mixed in with the skinny stirrer stick.  Holding this in mind, if just 10% of the cups of coffee served each day ends up with a teaspoon of sugar wasted in the bottom of the cup, that’s more than a million pounds a day in the trash.

This is totally insane, but right now there is a Kickstarter campaign for the Little Giant Coffee Cup, which will keep these valuable resources from being wasted.
