Just when you thought the web couldn’t get any funnier, creators Jared Snyder and Luis Garcia announce their upcoming web series, Hoping on Hollywood. The two say the series aims to exploit the humor in the cliche mistakes of average Hollywood hopefuls. Whether paying some washed up never-was for acting lessons, or PA’ing a low budget indie feature, each of the principals in the series exemplifies a particular stereotype of those typically seen in the personalities of the average Hollywood hopeful. Among those are the stage actor gone film, whose always overdoing everything, and the lazy self-entitled deadbeat who expects his success to be handed to him on a silver platter, but those are just a couple of the great characters the series will feature.
With the series in the pre-production stage, Snyder and Garcia are now turning to their peers and the internet to raise the $12.5k they need to fully produce the pilot episode of their new venture. It is their hope that by sharing the pilot episode with the world, they will be able to further raise funding for a complete first season of the series. To facilitate this, they have created a campaign on the notable crowdfunding platform for indie artists, Indiegogo.
The two say they’ve produced a short promo video that introduces their characters and talks a bit about the series, which can be viewed by visiting the Indiegogo campaign page here. In addition, contributors have access to some great perks, like a chance to pre-screen the pilot episode before it’s made public, an autographed copy of the pilot script, and even the opportunity to be listed as a Producer on the pilot episode.
Pending that Snyder and Garcia are able to fully fund the production in time, the pilot is scheduled to be shot sometime in October 2014. In the meantime, they say they will continue to spread the word about their new series and take care of some last-minute casting, to fill open roles.
