RUBY JEAN MARKS was born July 8, 1945 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. She was the third of eight children born to the union of Roosevelt Sr. and Dorothy Marks. She was preceded in her death by: her baby girl, Avery Henderson; her parents; her elder sister, Essie Sumrall; and one brother, Roosevelt Marks, Jr. Ruby was lovingly called “BB” by all that knew her. She was baptized at the tender age of eight at Pilgrim Baptist Church in East Saint Louis, Illinois and clung to Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way she should go; even when she is old she will not depart from it.” She was a true believer in the idea of church and never lost faith in God. “BB” completed her formal education in East Saint Louis School District #189

She married Wayne Henderson, Sr. and left East Saint Louis, Illinois for Gary, Indiana. While living in Gary, she was employed with American Bridge and later for the city of Gary where she dabbled in politics. “BB” was never afraid of taking a chance. She dreamed of starting a line of greeting cards, and started a company that she called BASH Enterprises Inc. where she worked diligently to get it off of the ground.
