Meet Moringa, a REAL Superfood. We hear about a new superfood everyday. The exotic gogi berry, the chia seed, and let’s not forget the less exciting, but equally popular, kale. While “superfood” is more of a marketing term than a true description, the term typically refers to a food that is exceptionally nutrient dense and possesses health benefits. So, what’s SUPER about moringa? The truth is…….everything. And it blows these other superfoods out of the water.
Moringa’s leaves possess an impressive range of nutritive and medicinal properties. Moringa leaves are nutrient-packed, putting spinach and kale to shame. Moringa provides a rich source of macro and micronutrients. It contains approximately 25% protein, almost unheard of for a vegetable. Further, moringa leaves contain all of the essential amino acids, and is considered an “ideal” protein by the World Health Organization (WHO), making Moringa a perfect plant-based protein for vegetarians and vegans. Moringa leaves also contain more protein than whole milk, more iron than spinach, more vitamin C than oranges, more potassium than bananas and more calcium than whole milk. Not only does it have an impressive nutritive value, Moringa has been scientifically documented to have anti-diabetic, cholesterol-lowering, and anticancer properties. Now THAT’s a superfood.
We are two sisters who were introduced to Moringa on a trip to the Philippines, where we not only were amazed at the beauty of this country, but devastated at the poverty and malnutrition that is prevalent. We are passionate about bringing this amazing Superfood Moringa to you, while we simultaneously fund our feeding programs to help malnourished children in the Philippines.
