Modulus Quartet champions a diverse range of music by living composers. Drawing on its collective experience, the quartet seeks out music of an individual style, developing creative relationships with composers and artists. The quartet explores new ways of presenting music, performing in unusual venues and incorporating visual arts and multi-media technology.
Over the last couple of years we have been building artistic relationships with some fantastic composers who have written for us a diverse range of compositions from Minimalism to Indian classical and Jazz to Drum and Bass. Modulus has been performing these incredible pieces across London and is planning to showcase them around the UK on its first ever tour. The quartet has also developed artistic relationships with video artists Tom Brown and Diego Barraza who have created visual artworks especially for the quartet’s performances.
At the heart of Modulus lies great contemporary music. It has been an incredible journey working with these composers and, in response to overwhelming audience feedback, Modulus would like to continue sharing this music outside of the concert platform and produce its debut album 12 Seconds of Light. Unfortunately, the cost of studios, engineering, editing, mastering and CD pressing has gone beyond our means. Modulus loves performing this exceptional music that has kept our audiences enthralled over the last year and our quest is to keep it alive and not lost in some digital archive.
