My name is Michael Lutz, I’m 24 years old. I live in Gainesville, Fl. I originally moved here from Saint Petersburg,Fl to attend the Florida school of massage, only to realize that it’s not what I was truly passionate about. My passion has always been in Gardening and Farming. Small local and Family farms have been the backbone of our country since the beginning.
With big agriculture destroying small local and family farms, I decided it was time to do my part in helping to reverse this. I learned a lot about the big agriculture industry through my 5 years of working at Publix. Enough to learn that almost no produce is locally farmed. More often then not, produce comes from Mexico where people are forced to work 14 hour days to barley make enough money to survive. If we decided as a society to change our values and put our motives towards creating positive change, anything could be possible. Which inspired me to actively create change within myself and my surroundings.
I realized what my mission was and decided to take the jump. My end goal is to start a non-profit organization which will fund local organic small family farms in lower income communities experiencing a food desert. My dream is to see farmers markets in every city and town throughout the country, allowing everyone, even those in poverty, access to clean healthy organic produce. I don’t believe that since someone is experiencing economic hardship, that they should be condemned to eating unhealthy processed foods.
Everyone no matter their income should be able to provide themselves and their families with clean natural organic foods at an affordable price. I realize I have a long road ahead of me, so I have planned out exactly what steps I should take to get there. I would love to discuss my project with anyone. Please feel free to ask any questions!!!
