Des Moines, IA – On Jan 5th, Medicine Werx launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for their new wooden sunglasses line and have already raised over $5k in funding in their first week. Made from sustainably sourced handcrafted wood and polarized lenses, the new eyewear collection has grown from nationwide grassroots marketing.
“Living off nothing, traveling, with everything invested in this and our heads in sunglassland for nearly 3 years, we have now quickly become one of the fastest growing independent brands inside social networking communities,” says the Medicine Werx team. “Our products innovate and manipulate themes from modern and ancient cultures all over the world as a way of paying respect to all people, cultures and ways of life.”
With the goal to also make a social impact, Medicine Werx has also pledged to plant 10 trees through Trees for the Future for every pair of glasses sold. Combined with the fact that all wood used in the company’s products is carefully sourced from certified sustainably managed forests, Medicine Werx stands apart from other eyewear companies for its dedication to environmental sustainability.
“Unlike most eyewear companies, at Medicine Werx we’re not just focused on vision; our goal is more along the lines of being a visionary eyewear company with an environmental and social conscience.” – Medicine Werx Team.
The company decided to take their product to Kickstarter to help finance the 2015 SS Collection and the new Optical Collection, which is suited specifically for prescription use. In addition, the company wanted to give supporters access to exclusive rewards like 45% off existing collection items, branded stickers and lapel pins, art from visionary artist Chris Dyer, and more. In exchange for pledging to the campaign, backers can choose an offered ‘perk’ or ‘reward,’ which will be delivered after the campaign has been successful on Kickstarter.
“By supporting our Kickstarter, you will allow us to acquire the funds that we need to expand our collection and continue building our business as a framework to inspire alternative youth and drive real effective change; without having to sacrifice our values as an independent brand that challenges the norms of society,” says the Medicine Werx team. “We truthfully ridicule the corporate standard, and part of our vision is to use our business as a means to inspire young people to take positive initiative in our society.
