Mariasia is a story that centralizes around a character named “Sorya Em,” who teaches Cambodian traditional music for a group of disabled kids in Cambodia. Due to the lack of accessibilities for her disabled students, she takes a challenge from Puton, a former foreign exchange student at UCLA. He is a man that shares the same love as Sorya does for Mariachi music, both never having this musical dream fulfilled.
Inspired by her drive and passion, Puton, a local construction company owner, offers Sorya new constructional changes to improve the lives of her students at her school. These changes come with one price: Sorya will have to enter into and perform a song at a Mariachi contest in Los Angeles, California, during her two-week stay at Long Beach for the Cambodian New Year Parade.
It opens with a musical scene showing Sorya performing Khmer traditional music on a stage in Phnom Penh. The ending scene is visually stunning; showing Sorya in a very elaborate Khmer traditional wedding dress performing a Mariachi song on a stage in the city of Los Angeles. How do I get here?
I am a California State University of Long Beach Film & Media alumnus, a director of photography, and a digital editor for 15 years. My clients include private, governmental, educational, non-profit, and religious sectors, plus the Yellow Pages, and Studio Now.
In the past 9 years, I’ve produced short films one of which is called “CROSSING,” which I am very proud to say that it has been permanently granted a title page on the IMDB.com website. And Mariasia is one of my complete feature scripts that I am first to produce.
I am trying to raise $226,205 to bring Mariasia to life and begin production in November of this year. The budget chart below shows a reasonable scale, considering that it consists of a group of international cast and crew who will be shooting overseas and in the states. Your pledge of support will in return bring handsome rewards. The greater the pledge, the greater the rewards.
Mariasia fundraising is under fiscal sponsorship of a non-profit organization –From The Heart of Productions, (FTHP) who will monitor the progress of the film. Under this fiscal sponsorship, your pledge of support is tax-deductible. If the goal exceeds, any unused portion of the fund for the production will be returned to FTHP.
