Game Equals Life bringing highly anticipated health education game to Kickstarter
The Magi and The Sleeping Star (MSS) is a Type-1 Diabetes self-management video game designed to educate those with Juvenile Diabetes through the use of innovative gameplay. It’s an action adventure fantasy in which the hero must maintain balanced blood sugar to use his magical abilities against robot armies and towering monsters. What sets MSS apart from other health games is that it’s not only a powerful educational tool, but an exciting action-packed adventure capable of standing as a great game in its own right. “Growing up with Type-1 Diabetes, I didn’t have a tool like this to help me see that I didn’t have to fear the disease. I believe The Magi and The Sleeping Star is going to helps kids with Type-1 Diabetes feel more comfortable with their condition and more empowered to control it. With a game like MSS, kids can feel confident knowing that proper balancing of their blood sugar allows them to be a champion like the protagonist in MSS.” – Adam Grantham, Creator of The Magi and The Sleeping Star
MSS was initially brought to life as a simple prototype developed by Adam Grantham and a small team of student artists in 2008. Now, with the support of Kickstarter backing, he’ll create the full-fledged game with a team of seasoned developers at The Workshop Entertainment.
“The Workshop is proud to stand behind Adam and Game Equals Life to support the development of The Magi and The Sleeping Star. Adam has a rare gift for storytelling, a brilliant mind and the skill and dedication gained from years of work at his craft. I have no doubt that with the right support, Adam will succeed in creating a truly heroic adventure that is equally true to the real-world challenges of life with Type-1 Diabetes. This game can make a difference in the lives of many affected by the disease, and more broadly can elevate the power and impact of our profession. I believe this is a worthy goal, and hope that many will agree and back Adam to make The Magi and The Sleeping Star a reality.” – Peter T. Akemann, President, The Workshop Entertainment, Inc.
The Magi and The Sleeping Star’s success on Kickstarter will not only fund development, but also help to raise awareness for Juvenile Diabetes. Kickstarter Campaigns operate on an all-or-nothing funding model. The more people get involved, the greater the chance of MSS becoming a reality.
