She Still Dreams, a play from Lafayette, LA written by ULL Performing Arts alum, Outstanding Graduate, and Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Honored Playwright, Brian Egland will perform in June for The D.C. Black Theatre Festival and in October for The Atlanta Black Theatre Festival.
She Still Dreams, which was selected out of 383 submissions in total, has also launched the Indiegogo campaign She Still Dreams Festivals to help raise funds for the expenses that the festivals will bring. Donations begin at $5 with perks of special recognition, performance dvds, t-shirts, and etc as thank yous for donations at varying amounts. The campaign will run until May 12.
“This is a huge opportunity for an independent artist from a small country town; doing plays in the local theatre, but it is also a huge expense for an independent artist from a small country town that does plays at the local theatre.”
The focus of the campaign is the D.C. festival as it takes place sooner. The estimated expense to take and perform She Still Dreams in D.C. is around $10,000.
The goal for this fundraiser is $2,000, hoping to raise 20% of our estimated expense if not more through this Indiegogo campaign.
Your contributions of support will help towards the cost of the following:
The Theatre Venue (estimated $1,700)
Our Travel: (estimated $1,500)
Lodging: (estimated $5,000)
Food: (estimated $2,000)
These estimates are based off of costs for 15 people, 6 days, and 4 performances
She Still Dreams tells the story of a girl that once carried a special light inside of her who now, as a woman, lives a quiet life with a husband who doesn’t talk, and stars ULL theatre students Missi Shepherd and M.J. Battley, BET’s Sunday’s Best finalist, Nebu Neezy, and Billboard Hip Hop Award honored recording artist Jru Starz.
