Hazlet, NJ — Local artist Chris Raimo is happy to announce the release of his very first book Spooky Things: The Art of Chris Raimo. Growing up in Hazlet, NJ Chris took an interest in art at an early age. Chris went on to develop this passion and studied Fine Art and Design at Monmouth University. This local artist currently spends his time working for a toy company doing graphic design and raising his two-year old twin boys so making the time to work on original art work has been hard. Spooky Things is a passion project that is a long time coming and Chris could not be more excited to get this project off the ground.
Chris has gotten some recognition for his fan art in the past, doing mash-up illustrations of classic Disney and Marvel characters with a twist. “That was an amazing moment for me. To wake up and see Stan Lee retweeted my work! Dream come true for any guy who grew up loving his characters,” says Chris. Although he has gotten some A-Listers’ attention including comments and retweets from the likes of Robert Downy Jr., Kevin Smith and Ricky Gervais, to name a few, he has taken a step away from fan art to work on original illustrations. Chris knows doing original pieces of art may not catch any Hollywood buzz but this is what he is truly passionate about and wants the world to see.
“This book means a lot to me because it collects all of my original art work which really shows who I am as a person and as an artist. I want my twin boys to be able to look at it one day and be proud of their strange dad,” says Chris. Spooky Things is a creepy, paranormal but quirky book full of eerily imaginative and fun artwork. It is currently being featured on Kickstarter for the initial launch of the book. As a local artist, it can be hard to get funding for original art projects and self-publishing is expensive, which is why crowdfunding platforms are a great option for local artists. Chris hopes that his book can stand out above the rest and raise the money it needs to get printed and into the hands of ghosts and ghouls everywhere.
