Austin, TX – Local director / filmmaker Walker Walmus and actor / producer Lucas Grantham announce the launch of their Kickstarter for their first full length feature And Life.
Written by Walker, And Life is not for the faint of heart. Set in the near future, And Life crosses the blood-brain barrier where self medication fails to cure a grieving heart. John Pearson, lead singer of Hunt the Wolf, must return to Austin, TX. to bury his brother after his fatal over dose the night before their first headlining tour, and piece together what remains of his life. The film explores the harsh realities of losing a twin, the overwhelming fog of grief, and our failure as a culture to prepare for deaths arrival in our lives. And Life takes us to the edge of the universe in an attempt to find meaning in the most difficult times, beautifully blending science fiction and music into an eye opening drama on a topic we can and will all relate to.
“We chose Kickstarter because it has such a strong community of people who want to be a part of something special. They are pivotal in helping small budget films get the attention and resources they need” says Walker ”This type of drama deserves to stay true to the script. We didn’t want to lose any of the creative control” Lucas adds. “We have shot the concept trailer, finalized the script, experimented with practical visual effects. We have a small team in place and are ready to start shooting.” And Life is set to be filmed in Austin starting in late December 2014, with a few scenes taking place in Houston. “Austin is home. We wanted to showcase Austin’s prowess as a major film community and it just made sense to have the production stay local” Walker says on why film it here in Texas.
“Both Walker and I have lost really important people in our lives. Both of us have played in the same band. We have had serious conversations about our experiences, what we’ve suffered through and why the world doesn’t talk about the things that hurt and scare us the most. We have healed because of our conversations. I don’t think we necessarily solved anything, but its has been a blessing to know that we aren’t the only ones who have gone through some of this stuff” says Lucas, the films actor/producer. “This film will cut through the noise that is surrounding us. If it can spark a conversation about how we neglect death in modern society, then its done what we set out to do.”
The Kickstarter is running now and is looking to raise $60,000 by Dec. 7th.
