Amherst, MA — LOANERS, an independent original web series, will unveil its trailer and Indiegogo campaign on Tuesday, October 20. Created by Melissa Dimetres and Arielle Jessop, LOANERS stars Olivia Holcomb as Jess Steinman and Arielle Jessop as Dakota Kellogg. Long time New Yorkers and best friends, Jess and Dakota end up back in their home town for very different reasons. The one thing they have in common – they’re broke. Dakota is a fast talking, hard-edged Brooklyn artist with a soft side. Jess is a writer grappling with what it means to be a woman in a very male driven industry. Back in the small New England town they grew up in, the two learn that you can try to escape your problems, but they always come with you. Laughter really is the best medicine in this comedy about friendship, going back, growing up, and learning how to be alone…together.
LOANERS is written and directed by Melissa Dimetres, who is originally from Amherst, MA and now resides in Los Angeles. Dimetres emphasizes the importance of strong-minded, complex characters in her work. The show also aims to explore the dichotomy of “follow your dreams” and “pay off your loans.” Jessop says, “we are looking at what it means to be a part of a generation that tells you you can follow your dreams and have whatever you want but also you’re followed by student debt and the stigma of being broke at thirty.”
The series production will take place in the Pioneer Valley and is scheduled for the spring of 2016, and what Dimetres and Jessop hope for as much as their Indiegogo funding success, is that the campaign will land them a producer. Dimetres says, “This is our first venture into independent filmmaking and to have a producer on board who can share our vision would be the best way to make this series a success.”
