Whilst working together in Montreal and finding themselves frustrated by the lack of accessible and affordable premium ice making equipment, cocktail perfectionists and industrious designers David Laquerre (Melbourne) and Johan Högdahl (Montreal) became consumed with creating their own system that could produce the clear dense ice required to ensure the finest quality cocktails. The resulting partnership is, “Les Glacons”, combining David’s conceptual and design focused approach with Johan’s flair for branding and visuals to produce a high volume crystal clear ice making system perfect for mixologists and home epicureans alike.
Les Glacons is simple to use and hardwearing, producing up to fifteen crystal clear and sharp-edged ice cubes in a continuous twenty-four hour cycle. The unit is comprised of two types of polyethylene, UHMW and HDPE, the unit is USDA approved and extremely resilient even at freezer temperature.
David and Johan both shared a vision of a product that would answer their problem whilst sitting comfortably alongside their ethical and environmental ethos, to only work with suppliers who shared their human values. This ethos resulted in relationships with local organizations, “Les Petites Mains”, who support women in need to break free of social isolation and get back into the workforce, and, “Rose Bircth”, a Montreal based custom furniture company who use only eco-friendly & sustainable materials and practices, plus a number of other similarly ethical businesses.
In the pursuit of social enterprise Les Glacons has been launched via crowd funding site Kick Starter. A 30-day Kick Starter campaign is currently underway and a total pledge of $20,000.00 is needed for David and Johan to realize their dream, put Les Glacons into production and bring crystal clear ice to the consumer!
